the water. Well-trampled path from
aspen cutting to water's edge shows
spring use of bark. 4th dam formed
along where some l'pole fell. Which
comes first the dam or the fallen l'poles?
Some kind of fish darted under cover of
sunken log in about 5' of water.
v. quiet
Sitting heavy behind dams.
Below 5th dam there is a gap of very
few aspen but below this gap is a thick
grove of aspen, some being 10" dbh +
this may be a good reserve food
supply. Signs of last winters use here.
Pounding bend below colony aspen +
especially willow are extremely dense,
but little if any beaver use.
A large meadow below this with
almost no aspen but suddenly abun-
dant just below meadow where a
broken-down shack is on W. bank. Some
scanty signs of use 50 yds farther down, old
+ new 1-2". 50 yds farther a winter - stopped
tree + a white fir cut down by beaver!
Fairly fresh sign increasing, maybe another
colony near. Lots of cutting on east bank
near old Jeffrey's snag; some 40 yds from
