Hall 1955 258 Feb. 19 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Left camp 9:35 this am. after a very cold night (-8°). On way up to Upper colony saw lots of coyote tracks, some made last night. Also tracks of: chipmunk, chickaree, weasel, snowshoe, cottontails. Coyote tracks measured as long as 3¾" in some instances. Upper Arr. upper colony 10:40. Pond was just criss- crossed & coyote tracks. I've noticed this previous winters. Found a coyote scat & fawn remains. Good many Aspen cut, mostly near lodge. Marking schedule (used pencil): After marking stumps I left at 11:30 for Hoffmann's shack for lunch. Saw chickaree 11:25 Solitaire 12:15. Left camp about 9:45 on a good crust. At Rock- slide I left Bob & Keith arranging to meet Bob at Sage Hen Road. No evidence of recent asp. cut- ting. Lodge by deadfall had a small melt- hole but the "old" lodge which seemed most active during the summers didn't. However, they must be active in this area as there were a number of clutes leading from one pond level to another in the immediate vicinity.
