Dec 19 Satchen Creek, 6500ft., 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., California.
Lower top of the lodge itself, thru which I could hear some faint calls. When I climbed up on top of the house to put my ear next to the opening I made so much noise that I must have scared them. Found an AF tent made of parachute silk pitched near south shore near point N (by guess). It was apparently abandoned as there was no equipment nearby. It was 7-paneled, cone-like:
At 11:35 took a stereo pair of the main lodge at 21/_. Marking schedule:
NEW SOUTH NEW NORTH
No cuttings at all in “old” section. One 7” tree will have to be painted on next trip because it was too heavily coated & ice to paint this time tho’ it is entered in tally.
R’slide I started back at 12:50. Ar. rock-slide colony 1:30 PM. Broke snowshoe strap so had to flounder around as well as possible but wasn’t able to see all I wanted. Neither main lodge nor one by side pine had melt hole in top. No evidence of any asp cutting.
