June 27 Sagsen Creek, 3 mi NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif.
to tell pile-up jams from
dams. Didn't see much nearly
cuttings or a lodge; it may
be a subsidiary dam of the
rockslide colony although it
is several hundred yards
downstream from it. Song
sparrow singing from dead
snag overlooking willows.
Continued downstream to where
creek passes under route 89.
On way down saw 2 pileolated
warblers in willows below the
intake, a white-breasted
nut-hatch entering a cavity in
top of a 40' dead snag on which
red-naped sap-suckers were
also seen. Yellow warbler and
7 Western Tanager seen in small
lodgepoles. Warbling vireo sing-
ing in lone l'pole standing in
sea of willows. Only beaver sign
was a couple of fresh 1 & 2" aspen
stumps about 1/2 way between the
highway bridge & the lumber
road bridge. Reached 89 by 3 P.M.
Weather cool & cloudy all day.
