J.G. Hall 1954 249 Nov 4 Sagehen Creek, 6500ft, 3mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. For samples of willow use which Bob Rupp & I put in this September, the tally of new cutting was rem: Sample 10:45 Hairy woodpecker work- ing bunches of dead L poles. Just above the big dam of twigs colony there are more beaver droppings in the shallow water than I've seen at any other spot in this stream. The winter food pile is extens- ive and I'd judge this colony to be more active than any other on the stream. The food stock pile is about 30 x 10' in surface dimensions. The lodge is not very large, about as large as the big one in the main pond of the "old" section of the town colony.
