June 27 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif.
Live on the rockslide north
of the pond. Some raspberries
& other low herbs. Many of the
rocks are covered with a hard
white deposit which looks like
cord white wash but is ex-
tremely hard and can barely
be scraped off with a knife.
Down in the crevices between
such rocks are piles of little
droppings probably of some
rodent. Heard some peculiar
chirrings coming from deep
down between these rocks but
didn't see anything. Found a
flya of some kind perched on
one of the boulders. Main dam
is just downstream from lodge
and there are smaller ones above
& below it. Extensive signs of
willow cuttings, mostly old, con-
tinues downstream for at least
100 yds. Some canals. Just above
intake is another dam-like
structure. The boys insist it
is a beaver damt but probably is,
though at high water its hard
