J.G.Hall 1954 243 Sept 12 Sagehen Creek, 6500ft, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Lower 1:45 PM took shots S & E from sta. 2 like those of Sept 9, 1953 and left soon after. Upper 5:50 PM. S. shore near sta. 24, saw 2 beavers at leadfall pond, one was { }, the other was a small me which crossed over one of the little upstream dams whose tail was invisible. At 6 the "double-notch" approached me as I was standing near sta. 24. It came ashore & crossed point of land & on way came to within 4 ft. of me, stopped, stood on its hind legs and sniffed every few feet before dropping to all fours and going on for a couple more feet. It hissed or "blew" frequently. Got to other side of point & slid into water, worked its way up stream a little way to some asp log lying in the water. After chew- ing on these briefly, it retraced its steps, giving me the same suspic- ious treatment before going back to the pond in which it had originally left.
