J.G.Hall 1954 237 sept 9 Sagehen Creek, 6500', 3 mi. N.W. Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. R slide but couldn't make the beaver out. 7:20 a small beaver (same one?) seen swimming under water from isle & comes to main pond, diving at 7:23. 7:24 saw beaver flop over the falls 100 yds upstream & head toward the blasted dam & pond I'm watching. Turns out to be scarback. He swam around a little just upstream from S dam before entering pond proper and diving into lodge. Couldn't get a good look at his tail. 7:30 deer comes downstream toward the doe & 3 fawns, 2 of which are light brown like the doe, the other being gray. The gray one has a darker dorsal tail line than the doe & very dark black inside ear-borders. 7:40 a beaver went over crossing but I didn't notice it in time to tell if it was marked. Must not have been, tho; as at 7:41 scarback & another beaver left lodge & swam to N. channel. A minute later an unmarked beaver swam down-pond, followed by scarback who then went over crossing. Still couldn't tell about his tail. Over 3 fawns approaching in single file. The other doe still under my tree. Left at 7:45. Weather's been warm all day.
