J.G. Hall 1952 12 June 27 Sagehen Creek, 3 Mi. N Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Rockslide Colony to Route 89, 11:15 AM This colony appears to be older than the one upstream. Bottom more heavily silted and most of the aspen cutting is weathered. Emphasis seems to be shifted here from aspen to willow. Most of the near-shore aspens have been cut, though there are some relatively thick stands farther up the rockslide. The willows are very dense all along the stream and show signs of much use past and present. Found one feeding platform cut back in the willows and covered with peeled willow sticks. The tips of almost all willows overhanging the water have been trimmed. About a dozen mature poles stand dead in the middle of the pond, drowned by the water. Hairy woodpeckers nesting in live in one of these stumps all of the aspen cut standing on the rockslide, except the most recent, have profuse sprouts 2+3 feet long. This wasn't noticed in other areas where aspen have been cut but may occur. We aged
