J.G. Hall 1954 222 21 Aug Upper Sagehen Creek, 6500 ft., 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. well but the tail notches appear to be as clear as the day made & show up especially well under water. For several minutes she scratched fur on dorsal surface of tail "peduncle", then at anus & then at shoulder & the hind foot. 7:25 she went ashore near lodge and began nibbling on bark of a recently felled 12" asp. She got a chip from this, bringing it to shallow water to work on. Cutting heard from vicinity of rocky slope. Heard & saw clucks- area. 7:35 beaver went ashore again briefly, then back into the pond & headed up-stream. 7:40 a bit noticed swimming in main pond - probably had come from the lodge. Had no marks. Went to an alder thicket to begin cutting, then swam about in pond briefly before going ashore at same spot the larger beaver had just used. Chewed on asp. briefly, worked on mossel in shallow water, then returned to its alder patch across the pond. At 7:45 I noticed a larger beaver swimming about in deadfall pond but it was too far away to tell whether it was old {} or not. At 7:50 the bit left alders, swam across pond, crawled over the dam near S end & disappeared downstream. 7:55 loud, terrified "bleat" came from
