J.G. Hall 1954 218 Aug 10 Sagehen Creek, 6500 ft, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Upper when I lost the other q at R slides air temp at camp was 35.5 deg + water 42.5 deg. Since the upper colony is considerably higher than camp + Rodeslide it was prob-ably significantly colder or at least as cold. Went back to take the "[illegible]" out of the trap q and it was so weak it couldn't even bite or crawl. Carried it up the bank to where it could thaw out but kept it in shade. Had the shakes. At 4:30 I left it with some willow + asp twigs. Back at b, expecting to find it dead, but found it gone without having eaten any of the willow or aspen. 6:15-6:25 watched q at N end of pond where dead q was found after surprising "him" chewing on a 1 1/2" asp log in shallow water. He paid no attention when I stood still. He soon dove into what I took to be a bank burrow but it turned out to be a tunnel connecting two parts of the pond separated by a peninsula. These 2 parts were on the same level, of course. I could see tail marks fairly at 20' w/o binos + came for fur mark. In the second part of the pond she swam over to within 5' of me, left trap set. 6:30 took dead q back to camp for skinning. No embryos.
