Saw water shrew at 12, left 12:15.
Rockslide area of road to 89 saw Beebe,
ground squirrel run across road to hole
in rocks at 3&U. Ar. U. colony seat 7:15
PM. &M. Scared 2 does. 7:20 2 ? pil-
isolated warblers and a chipmunk on S shore.
8:00 doe on N shore. 8:05 a small beaver came
down stream, over a dam just below which I
had a trap set, then right over the trap with
out getting caught, into main pond & dove
into lodge. No marks visible. 8:15 an un-
marked beaver "hit"? did exactly the
Aug 10 same. Left 8:25.// Ar. 3:10 to find 3
beavers caught: kit (?) at main dam in v.
poor shape. Sexed her as ? & marked: (J)
Caught the "yearling" marked two days
ago: (J) at the same trap where the 2
small beaver "escaped" last night. Let
her go; she was in good shape. At uppermost
trap where I made my 2 catches last
year, was a mature lactating ?, dead -
slight bleeding at the nose. Just like the
lactating ? caught last year on
Aug 3. Acc. to streamside thermograph at
camp air temp was at a minimum at 6 AM
of 33°, water 42.5° at same time. Last Aug 3
