J.G.Hall 1954 205 July 21 Sagehen Creek, 6500ft, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co. Calif. R'slide As noted on the 6th, much of the E. end of the asp. stand has been cut earlier this year. Heard but didn't see nutcracker in the forest N of after setting all 4 traps. Sagehen Road at 4:30, 7:35 PM at Obs at the lower lodge. As I climbed the tree, a yng beaver, perhaps a yearling, appeared in pond, swam to isle, resting in shallows for about 5 minutes before diving. No marks. 7:45 came around island from NE end, rested on a partly submerg'd log and then returned the way he'd appeared. 7:55 Presumably the same animal seen eating shoots of willow- at SE end of isle. 8:00 another unmarked beaver of about the same size seen near the isle. Swam back & forth in main pond. Noticed that paws of front feet were held forward, not backward "in waistcoat pockets" as held by Dugmore. This may not hold true for beavers swimming fast. This beaver swam upstream thru gap in blasted dam, reversed to chew off some willow shoots for a minute before diving into lodge. Meanwhile I had lost the other beaver. Noted Audubon Warbler in my tree. At 8:15 a "yearling", un- marked, emerged from lodge, swimming sw ``` ```json {`text`: `"J.G.Hall\n1954\n205\nJuly 21 Sagehen Creek, 6500ft, 3 mi.
