Spent all after- Carpenter & Eder Valleys noon w/ Walt Frazier checking coyote & Bobcat traps in Everett Carpenter valleys but no catches. 6PM at big fallen log 200 yds uproad from main camp, came on 3 long-tailed weasels playing. Very bold. Two of them climbed a 6" lodgepole nearby, eyeing me intently, the third darted in and out among the crevices of the log, only 5' away. Responded well to squeaks & gave some R'slide of their own. 8:30 PM checked two Rodeslide July 21 beaver traps. // 8:45 AM. checked both traps- no beaver. 9:15 AM while I was standing on top of the mid- colony lodge a large beaver swam out lodge entrance & over to the burrow on the island, all under water & in a hurry, scuffing up mud from the bottom as he went. Didn't reappear.
