J.G.Hall 1954 July 4 Sagehen Creek, 6500ft, 3mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. R'slide moud & hard to handle. Tried caustic stick on tail but this seemed to do no good at all so used branding fluid which seemed to have no immediate effect. Branded left dorsal surface at midpoint : G . Tried some of the yellow lacquer on back of neck. Got him in barracoo bag but he tore his way out by ripping a small opening large. Ride caught him by tail but he had a hard time getting him brads in the trap & jada + I got small bites in the fray. Need a shorter + per-haps heavier bag or maybe a metal cone. Didn't feel safe to attempt to sex it but did note 3 or 4 joint bodies extruded from anus. Est. wt. 40 lbs. Reset the trap after freeing the beaver. July 5 Arrived 10 AM & laid out sample "G" (on previous page). At noon took shot of the North end of this section. There is not one new cutting on this entire sample although about 75% of it has old cuttings. At 1 PM laid out "H" & "I" samples (see page 200). From 7-8 PM I set out flash trap for minks using piece of trout for bait on an area of muddy shore
