J.G. Hall 1954 193 June 28 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. these trees farther upslope. The other area is on the N slope around stations 16, 17, & 18 where there was also a spurt of cutting last spring followed by a lull the rest of the season. This area which was a rather dense stand of about 3" trees 1½ yrs ago is now practically leveled. Crossbills, a downy, jays and a bird about dive-sided flycatcher size which gave single notes formerly thought to be pigmy owl, then mt. quail. Couldn't get a good enough looks for identifi quit at 5 but returned to finish marking from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. Red-breasted Sapsucker seen going to hole in top of tall, dead Kipole about 8 PM & sprg gave loud cries, so must soon be ready to leave nest.
