June 25 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
R'slide saw the one this afternoon. Heard chicka-rees once. Heard beavers chewing on willow in lower R'slide area, watched a medium-sized one swim around lodge in middle area. Slapped tail once & dove. The lodge looks in poor repair. Cool wind blowing in evening. Left 9 P.M.
June 26 Left main camp 8 AM for U. Colony. On way U.colony up saw pewee, olive-sided flycatcher, song, white-crowned and chipping sparrows, warbling vireo, ♀ Williamson's sapsuck-er, cowbird, mt. chickadee (& nest in hole in dead stump about 18" above ground), junco, r.c. beinglet and heard mt. quail and pileolated warblers. Reached U.colony 9:30. Windy & clear. A 10" asp. felled below main dam & previously marked black, has leaves out & as well developed as those of standing trees. A little wood still intact but no bark. Beavers have been cutting rather extensively in area just east of rocky slope but well away from stream, as far as an es-timated 50 yds. in one place. The main lodge appears in excellent shape & to be gradually increasing in height. The main dam is in good shape but
