June 12 Roberts Ranch, 8200ft, Wyman Creek, Inyo Co., Calif.
down I saw fresh lion tracks in
the road going down. Frank & Ward
said they continued down the road
for almost a mile before turning off
into the sage. Possibly the lion had
spooked up the doe Frank shot at.
This is at least 6 days after the
other tracks seen on June 6 were
made + probably 7 or 8 days. Set
out flash trap near Saw-whet Owl
hang out, baited c two Peromyscus.
Set out 33 gang traps just before dark. Frank heard 2
cloud noises about 400 yds up
canyon - like a person whooping,
thought it was a person. Lion?
I strolled up canyon & flashlight
I got an eye-sight line about 150
yds up. Small doe. Chased her
down past Frank who took a
shot at her but missed. A
little rain shortly after this.
June 13 Fresh Coyote tracks in road
by camp. Checked traps: 1 g. t. low-
tee, 1 chipmunk, 23 P. maniculatus
& 1 P. grinitus. At 6 Ward & I
drove three miles up canyon when I
spotted 4 deer - 2 does, 1 spike + 1 two-
