J.G. Hall 1954 176 June 3 Indian Creek, 1400 ft, White Mts, Esmeralda Co, Nevada morning but are extremely secretive Shot a Racerunner in the sage flats on the way back. Arr. camp 9 A.M. After supper Reset flash-trap & then watched for Poor-wills till about 8. They are very active as they were last night; one almost alighting on my shoulder, but lit on a rock nearby when I moved. Uttered a series of "chuck, chuck, chucks" and plunged up for an insect and alit on same spot. Later saw one flying and it glides about a little; reminded me of a miniature sparrow hawk in silhouette. Day has been very warm but breezy. Clouding up in late afternoon to clear by evening. Checked camera - it was fired - probably by accident. June 4 Drove up to end of road going up 5 fork of Indian Creek then started hiking in from here by the trail at 6 A.M. Destination Cabin Creek, 10,500 ft., Mono Co., Calif. A long pull thru mt. mahogany, P. aristata and then P. flexilis to the flats above. Took approximately 1/2 hrs. On road before we started our hike we secured 2 hen grouse in the road. They each stayed in the road.
