1 June Indian Creek, 7400 ft., White Mts., Esmeralda Co., Nevada
to camp about 9. At 5 I set out
the flash trap in the willow
swamp where some Peromyscus
used as bait had been taken a
couple of nights ago. In evening
I reset my line of 29 traps
and saw a yng Saw-whet Owl in
the swamp which Ward shot. The
Poor-wills opened up better than on
any previous eve. This has been
a warm, clear day & evening.
2 June 7 SM. Checked trap line & caught
18 Peromyscus, 2 water shrews &
one Harvest mouse. At 8, Frank &
I hiked down road about 1/2 mile,
then crossed over to the S. forks
of Indian Creeks. Weather very
warm = no clouds all day.
On way through the sage flats shot
a Ctenodiporus and 2 Scelopor-
us. Went up creek bed for about 1/2
mile and passed through some very
rocky cliffs on the N side - possibly
Ringtail country. Then hit a long
stretch of Birch which extended
up to some mining lldgs about
another 1/2 mile and beyond.
