No bobcat in trap. Checked mouse traps
(29 in all) & caught 16 Peromyscus
m. sonoriensis, 2 Microtus montanus
and 1 m. longicauda which Ward
calls m. mordax. Started hunting a
little after 6 in the Willow "swamp"
again and found nest of spotted tow-
hee in grass at base of Sagebrush
about 40' from edge of swamp.
It had three eggs, spotted i reddish
brown. House wrens again singing loud-
ly and I located nest of one with
a hole in a willow about 15' above
ground. Noticed an adult woodrat,
m. lepida in debris of fallen willow
not far away from wren's nest. Frank
says my Downy is a hairy. We both
Got shots at it & missed. Shot a
Steller's Jay. They're very noisy here
cf. to Trail Canyon. Black-headed
grosbeaks singing several times from
top of willow near swamp. Cowbird
and cedar waxwing each pas-
sed through as did a J W Tan-
ager. Flicker nest located by Frank
yesterday has young about ready
to fly, judging by noise they make.
