30 May Indian Creek, 7400 ft, White Mts, Esmeralda Co., Nevada
from the trap. Some of its feathers
were in the trap, though. A per-
mitted me to pile it up so must
have been injured. Left camp at
6AM to hunt the willow swamp" just
upstream from camp. Weather cool,
breezy with a very slight haze early.
Insects abundant & noisy. House wrens
most persistent singers. Shot a q
slicker, q lazuli bunting and a q
wood pewee. Hairy or blowy wood-
picker drumming persistently but
was unable to get a good look
at him. Tolmie & Dil. Warblers,
cowbird, spotted towhee, orange-crown-
robins
d warbler and chickadees found
here and a Poor-will called twice
from the rocky slope across the
canyon. This particular area seems
much richer in bird life than
did anything in Trail Canyon.
In eve. set out 20 more traps
and watched Ward set out a
bobcat trap baited with a jack-
ralbit. Later in eve. Ward shot a
saw-whet owl by flash light in the
swamp.
