J.G.Hall 1954 166 May 26 Trail Canyon, 1890ft, White Mts, Esmeralda Co., Nevada high up the hillside feeding on the bunch grass. A good patch of Mt. Mahogany in tree stature about 1 1/2 miles above camp. Further up scat- tered limber pines occur. Mt. Blue- birds, Oregon juncos, flicker seen as well as Steller jays, one of which I shot in willows. About 2 mi. above camp where there is a 100 yd or so gap of meadow before more willow grows farther up, I flushed what probably was a sooty grouse and definitely flushed one in willows about 2 mile above camp when I shot at a jay. Robins seen. Lots of deer sign but saw no deer. A couple of cow skeletons in meadow areas. Heard a couple of Clark's Nut- crackers. Back to camp by 11:30. Clear all day, wind died down in eve- May 27 ning. Clear, windy but not as bad as yesterday. 5:30, went up the sage slope just N of slope and then up the rav- ine just beyond it. Finally went down creek for about a half mile. On sage slope sage sparrows, Brewer's sparrow, green-tailed towhees and got
