May 15 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
Sagehen mouth Scouted upstream away but found no more than the four dams, all below the "moraine-ish" spit near where the deer was found. Several spots where some thing has been chewing off bark of stream-side e'poles. Could be beaver.
Nest of song(?) sparrow in grass at base of willow; 7 eggs, light green background & reddish-green spots: [drawing] in a sort of band. Also seen down here were: red-wing, brewers, hilldeer, cliff swallow, lelops or frogs. Left 5 PM.
At Hobart a mt. bluebird + adder[illegible] warbler, latter flew to willows. And
May 16 Clear calm. Spring camp 8:20 AM. W. tanager calling from top of a jeffrey. Then a pewee-sized flycatcher replaced it. Two marmots, one about beechey size, the other full-sized were on the W-most Rockpile just uphill & a little W of the spring. Jumped a mangy looking doe from foot of the rock pile. Then saw 3 more marmots on the same pile bringing total to 5 in view at same time. They look 1/2 grown.
8:35 heard first pewee at Kilm[illegible]. Also a nutcracker, a belding
