tree & rocky slope lie
4 three-inch stumps
which weren't marked because they appear
to be trimmed branches from a larger, felled
tree covered by snow. Nearby by is the 11"
listed as lodged since it was marked even
though its stump was concealed. At very up-
per end of colony was one open section of
stream covered only by a thin film of ice. It
was about 30' long by 5' or. width:
Saw a 4" trout swimming here. Since
this stretch is as shaded as stretch up-
stream and moreso than stretch down-
stream, both of which are covered ~ 2'
of snow, it may be a spring-fed area.

S-facing side, exp. 2/11. Flash tree has
become lodged; shows about 2 recent
lites but they had no effect on lodging
it. Little told work; most of it centered
about lodge. Snow crusted well enough
