Hall 1953 148 Oct 4 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. Roadside by the Trout. Didn't get good look at trout but noted a little red on or near adipose fin. Also white dorsal fin border. Water about 6" deep here as a guess. Willow yellowing a little in places but the asp. here hasn't turned 'this' on high slopes be- tween here and Reno it has, as was evident yesterday in plane. 9:35 AM heard nutcracker + saw buzzard. L.Colony Upper end lower colony. Asp. beginning to turn on slopes but not in creek. Cutting schedule for new part of L-colony: D X L 1 2 3 4 5 6 9 of wet, mud-covered grass and debris at uppermost cutting site where beaver have been hauling sticks to water. These piles were on shore 2' from water + smelled faintly of castor. Deer tracks more numerous on trail beside creek than ever before. Add two 2-inches to last count. New dam just downstream from the log cabin is in much better shape + repair now than it was last Sept. Will have to go over each asp strip sample to determine diam. groups for future extrapolation. 11:10 fox sparrow on low dam. Cutting schedule for ssee line 20, p 156
