J.G. Hall 1952 3 21 June Jagehen Creek, Nevada Co., Calif. ably farther below water level+ on the side where the water is quite deep, probably now at least 5' in some spots. Even now when water in the creek is so high, it is very clear + doesn't carry any silt to speak of. The bottom right next to the house where current is presumably lowest is gravelly and doesn't seem to have any of the silt deposit supposed to be character- istic of beaver ponds. Maybe that is only characteristic of old ones. Both sampling of this pond will be interesting. Aspen surrounding this pond are extremely plenti- ful in all sizes. In a couple of places they occur in stands from the stream right on up the hillside for 30 or 40 yds. They can't dig canals to the distant trees so it will be interesting to note how far they will go from the pond to cut trees. The dam seems to be in fair condition but, as we noticed in May, it's hard
