At the pond just below the shack the l poles should be photo- graphed now before they die as a cf. for later on. This is the same colony - the new lodge. Alarmed quail in same willow clump as last time but didn't Sept 8 flush. Finished 2 PM. Main camp Main camp 8.45 AM. Coyotes barking loudly from cor- er of mdw + timber SE of camp. Eased over that way but they stopped sud- denly and I saw nothing. Upper colony U. colony 10 AM. Weather warm & few high cirrus clouds. No more work done on the asp. felled near my camp on last visit 9 days ago, 10/10 small Cooper's hawk flew b' over my head in thick aspen grove 30 yds upslope from lodge, lit in asp 10' above ground & 25' from me. Made of few sharp notes in flight. Took off after a minute. Marking schedule: D X L 1 1 2 II 3 4 II 1 5 6 1 11 1 Lodge-plastering has begun. Some more cutting activity on NW slope. One lone tree near end of the deadfall dam has wet chips at its base. Big asp near sta* 24 that was just about down on last visit, is now down.
