Hall 1953 141 Sept 2 SageHen Creek 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. J. Colony examined some fresh beaver workings. Mrs. Ever says there are lots of workings upstream away. Also L.Colony saw a kingfisher. Lower Colony 1:30 PM. Brought in all my gear & set up camp at S side of pond. Weather hot. Saw kingfishers, creepers. at 5:30 set my Sept 3 traps. Got up to check traps - no luck. Spent most of day mapping, resetting Sept 4 traps in late afternoon. No luck. Continued mapping until 6. Set both traps. Watched beaver working in main pond at 7. Checked traps at 9 but no luck. Weather has been hot all day - clouds in afternoon, his appearing by eve. Warm enough to have left traps set all night but I didn't. Sept 5 Continued mapping most of day. Took shot of Sta. #24 (balanced stump) 50, f/5.6. 7-7:30 PM watched 2 beaver at main pond. A half-grown beaver swam aimlessly around NE corner of pond, one almost climbing clear out onto the shore near Sta. #1. A couple of times it surfaced within 4' of me as I stood on the law. Paid no attention to me. Reset traps right way
