J.G. Hall 1953 Aug 25 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., California L. colony seen from time to time. One building seen at Roode side colony, only a few clip muntts+ no golden-mantled ground squirrels seen on way down to Lower Colony where we used to almost walk on them. 11:30 water near main lodge still muddy. 12:35 located another lodge across a channel S of the large new pond just upstream from the main pond. It's in a jungle of willow & is smaller than the main lodge. A 30' high burnt snag about 25' from N of the S shore approx- imately marks lower limit of the "mole" colony or upper limit of old workings on that side. A lot of more damming has gone on since last visit, and lots more cutting some of which I missed prob- ably on my last check. Most is prob- ably new & will be so entered on chart. D | X | L ---|----|--- 1 | 30 | 2 | 45 | 3 | 31 | 1 4 | 15 | 5 | 2 | 123 am adding some obviously older cuts onto last count to approach true situation bet- ter. 2:20 PM scared at least 6 g-nail, probably same bunch, from Wyethia near the little shack. Found another new dam even above the shack & a smaller one still higher.
