Aug 15 Sagelien Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif.
Lower R'slide colony 4 PM. Reset traps as
Aug 16 before. Checked traps 7 AM- no beaver
Aug 17 Plain Camp 8 AM Been seeing & especially
hearing kingfishers here for over a week
and one was esp. conspicuous this
morning along creek opposite bldgs.
Aug 18 Main Camp 8-10 AM. More kingfshiers action.
Upper + Lower R'slide colony 7:45 PM. Brock,
jones & I watched till 8:25, Jones covering
upper, I middle & Brock the lower col-
ony at the same time, for the first time.
Interesting to note I was only one who
saw beaver. Saw two adults, one of which
was "C" marked two days ago. All
tail paint & almost all shoulder paint
gone, only tail scar identified it pos-
itively. This method of painting won't
work, obviously. Weather clear.
Aug 21 Lower end of Kiln meadow, timber on N
side of meadow between it & road, 10:44
weasel chased into a 60' lodgepole by Elvin
Weidlein and Brock & I kept it tired
while trying for a few shots. It was
a beautiful long-tail with cream-color-
ed stomach; got good looks at it from
about 2' away and actually reached
out & touched it once. It made no noise
