J. G. Hall 1953 132 Aug 15 Sagelien Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. Lower R'slide colony 4 PM. Reset traps as Aug 16 before. Checked traps 7 AM- no beaver Aug 17 Plain Camp 8 AM Been seeing & especially hearing kingfishers here for over a week and one was esp. conspicuous this morning along creek opposite bldgs. Aug 18 Main Camp 8-10 AM. More kingfshiers action. Upper + Lower R'slide colony 7:45 PM. Brock, jones & I watched till 8:25, Jones covering upper, I middle & Brock the lower col- ony at the same time, for the first time. Interesting to note I was only one who saw beaver. Saw two adults, one of which was "C" marked two days ago. All tail paint & almost all shoulder paint gone, only tail scar identified it pos- itively. This method of painting won't work, obviously. Weather clear. Aug 21 Lower end of Kiln meadow, timber on N side of meadow between it & road, 10:44 weasel chased into a 60' lodgepole by Elvin Weidlein and Brock & I kept it tired while trying for a few shots. It was a beautiful long-tail with cream-color- ed stomach; got good looks at it from about 2' away and actually reached out & touched it once. It made no noise
