J.G.Hall 1953 130 Aug 12 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi.NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. R'slide creek, pausing briefly to chew on some willow on the way. To begin with he had to be shoold out of the trap. Fin- ally slapped his tail & dove. Temp at this time was at the minimum for the "night" and both air and water were 49° F (at camp). Cf. note p. 124. Returned at 3:30 e Johnsens & reset traps in same lo- cations; weather heavily overcast in afternoon + one or two drops of rain fell. Hrosera bog early afternoon. A couple of kingfishers were calling noisily & flying Aug 13 upstream fry fits & starts. Lower Rock - I slide colony 6:30 AM. Checked traps e Brook - no luck. Weather was very warm all night due to heavy over- cast. Rained sporadically from 7 to 8 but cleared up by 9. SST+ sultry, e many cumulus in sky. 1:30 PM Started willow strip census samples and make three 50-foot counts. No. 1 was from sta # 1 to a marked nail stake upslope + just NW of the giant snag, no. 2 was from sta. #6, E to marked wooden stake on edge of water "diversion"; no. 3 was from sta. #20 to a pt. E of the dam marked e wooden stake. These all are plotted on map.
