Aug 11 Sazchen Creek, 3mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
flying 3 or 4" above surface but
gave up when insect swam away.
I didn't realize they could forgo on
insects unless they were either on
the surface or sinking. Lots of
small brookies in every pool. The
dams opposite the cutting area just
loaded w/ fresh asp logs. Couple of
fresh fir cuttings, only basal bark
ehewed. Dam just below scabark fresh-
ly maintained on S side of pond. No
new cuttings on flash tree or main
dams but they seem in good condition.
Left 12:40. Weather clear thus has been a hot day.

4 PM. Reset traps. It's
warm so I think I'll
try leaving them set tonight.

AM. Finally caught a live Beaver! This
was lower set in a muddy shallows, Med.
siz. Was able to punch web & paint dots on
shoulder & tail; (D) but didn't have my
plastic markers yet & wasn't able to see
it because I was alone. Released him
about 7 and he swam slowly up the
