appeared about half way between the lodge & "photo tree", partly built around the crossing logs there.
Startled quail from isle between photo tree & big deadfall, it flew S. When I went over to look for nest I startled a grouse which whirred off upstream. No nests or eggs.
The N end of the dam just below the big deadfall has been extended considerably. Very fresh work here and a great deal of additional cutting has gone on here in this NW corner where it was active in July. As in July, no evidence of cutting elsewhere. The 16" "E Coni" tree has been started & it + some others still have wet wood .. probably not more than 2 or 3 nights old.
Photographed one uphill-felled tree at 11:40 1/00th'. Showed opportunism of cutting since there was a platform about 20" off ground on uphill side & beavers seem to cut from it exclusively. About noon I was watching some 3 & 4" brookies darting about in pool, one rose to surface as if to grab an insect that was
