124 J.G. Hall 1953 Aug 1 Sagenen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. seen to swim up into area of the upstream dams. This behavior still an enigma. Decided on a good place to set the traps for tomorrow. Left Aug 2 8:30 PM. No beaver caught. Spent most of day mapping & Bolv got U. Rockslide fairly Aug 3 well triangulated. A cold day, reset traps Aug 4 in evening. Checked traps about 8:30 to find I'd finally caught one, a lactating ?, but it had died (supposedly of exposure) during the night which was very cold. However it bled slightly from nose when held up so it's possible that it got hit in head by trap. This may have aggravated situation but since she was wholly inside trap and had no ob- vius external cuts (except for a slight one on a heel) I doubt if this killed her. Spent rest of day skinning her out. She was in good condition, the skull was in excellent shape although the incisors were quite worn down not sharp as in the ? found on L. Truckee river. Brook & Kearns looked at stomach contents which were mostly grass & some willow bark. Some new- atodes found in stomach + very numerous,
