large squirrel. V. Rockslide colony 7-

setting traps & this may delay their eve.
appearance or maybe they just
July 29 weren't out there tonight. No beaver
caught here when checked this AM.
July 30 7 PM left traps unset tonight but watch-
ed V. colony till 8, being careful
to make no noise on approach--still
no beaver so perhaps "reckless" of set-
ting traps is of no consequence.
Then went down to lower Rockslide where
I noticed one beaver here twice or
two beavers separately. This was in
the area of my most active watching
last year. Water higher here and
lower in the very lowest part of
the colony than was the case
last year. This was noticed on June 6.
This may be due to better upkeep of
the dam just below the submerged
"sink hole" & poorer upkeep of the
large one built along the giant
deadfall farther down. Left 8:45 PM.
