July 25 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
ing over timber at N end of pond, Mr.
Miller identified a ? hummer as Calliope
which is what I had thought previously
should be the common nesting hummer.
He said you're liable to see Rufus in
here almost any time though, also.
Wright's flycatcher foraging out from 20'
pine in a sage area, flying out onto
sage or perching on dead limb. At
NW end of colony some new cutting, some
of fir due but not marked today. Trails
flycatcher in 20' lipole in willows, under-
parts yellower, throat darker than Wright's.
Dr. Miller mentioned possible effect of beaver dams
on such sp. as song sparrow (nests in willow
areas but not on ground) fox sparrow (nests
on ground under willows) & yellow warb-
ler. Flock of red crossbills settled in a
large lipole to forage on S side of
pond. Mrs. Miller shot a jiw. ?
Good fresh drag trail on SW end
