J.G. Hall 1953 116 July 15 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., California Spring camp 10:30 AM. Ososhawk flying high over camp in a downstream direction & calling in flight. Saw Mt. quail a little later flying up hillside between the two tents. Roadside colony 11 AM, kingfisher being chased by some smaller bird. Lower colony 12 noon. Heard kingfisher but saw none. Surveyed all afternoon with Bill. Weather clear + hot, turning cloudy & sprinkling a little. Aug 6:30 when July 17 we left. Upper colony 9:30-11 AM with Leopold. Suggested a 3% sample for line transect sampling (of aspen) but 5% might be better to give a margin of safety. Also suggested a line transect or two for studying willow use. Count + measure each willow stem + check annually the change in stem measurement. Use metal stakes for marking photo pts + transect lines.
