J.G.Hall 1953 113 July 12 Sage Hen Creek, 3mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. only 1 nest was found. No territorial behavior observed. When first approached the f was on the nest but was flushed when we got 3' away; didn't alight on nest while we watched but flitted around nervously in the willows. Nest contained undetermined no. of young relatively helpless. Main camp 11:15, photographed a Clarkdealee at nest cavity in a dead stump. Hole about 2' above ground. Parent not very shy, took photo from 3'. 2:15PM found a Pine Siskin's nest in branch of a T pole overhanging the stream. Couldn't tell if there were young in the nest as it was 15-20' above water. July 13 Cold Stream, Smith-neck creeks & Sardine Point Rd, Sierra Co, Calif. 7:30 AM. Weather hot & clear. Went along to Clyde Shehorn while he reset his beaver traps & scouted beaver country all morning. Best beaver country in Smith-neck creek where there is a chain of dams over 1/2 mile long continuously. Beaver cutting actively much more than at any Sagehen Colony. Seven
