J.G. Hall 1953 110 July 10 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. L.colony for first 10 minutes. Pond was loaded w/ R. boylii tad which he was evident- ly hunting. Lots of mayfly nymphs here too but he paid no atten. to them. twice while submerged he stuck out his tongue just as he would do in the air. After 10 min. he raised just his head above the surface. Twice the mayfly nymphs actually crawled out on his head but he didn't budge. He made a guide motion w/ a tadpole (in- visible to me till then) darted out to deep water. Don't know if he waited for a tadpole to move + then made a pass at it or had his eye on one all along + then made a stab + missed. A little later he did this again & missed. 2 moved on. Song sparrow, Peewee heard. Saw 2 Red- tails circling v. high directly overhead at 11:40. A lot of new mud has been added along the middle of the main dam. With maybe one or two exceptions there has been no new cutting on the S. side. It's all sprouted. However, I finally did notice that the beaver have eaten some of the sprouts in contrast to
