July 8 Sierraville to Sierra Valley, Sierra Co, Calif. 10 AM, clear-hazy. Hot. Irrigated alfalfa field habitat. Meadowlarks, magpies, Beechey ground squirrel, barn swallows July 10 & w. Kingbird, Lower Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. Lower Colony 10:05 AM, Weather clear + calm although it was cloudy + even sprinkled a little last night. At least 7 trees had been cut + two others notched since my last visit here on the 7th. This was in the NW corner where cutting has been most fresh this summer. Watched a 14" garter snake in quiet backwater 5" or so deep. He was submerged completely,
