Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Cal.
Spring Camp 8:30 AM. Goshawks swooped
thru camp about 4' above ground,
headed downstream. Didn't make any
apparent passes at the local vertebrates.
L.colony
Lower Colony 10 AM. Again heard "pigmy
owl" on way down. The chipmunks
are just thrils in amongst the wy-
ethia and the path is a deer high-
way tho' I've yet to see a deer down
here. Continued marking trees at the
NW corner of the colony but also did
a good many out in the water of the
2 enlarged ponds. Obviously con-
siderable cutting has occurred
here even since my last visit
in June. A view of this grove must
be in one of the photos to be taken
periodically. 11:45 found 18" gar-
ter snake with ? pil. warblers in
jaws; grassy meadow area at
streamside. This place loaded & y.i. frogs + tad.
1 PM saw & (?) Calliope
hummingbird feeding on the colum-
bine retar. It had a green back &
some rufous in tail. 3 PM Zapus

by beaver ponds & very wet. Here
also saw a tremendous toad
