J.G. Hall 1953 107 July 6 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. ward S shore where he was lost. Later Betty saw it in grass of the S shore, app- arently eating the grass (never seen before doing this). The grass immediately around it was clipped. 8:28 a beaver, possibly the same one, seen swimming from dir- ection of S. shore and swam back & forth a few times in front of the house before diving into it. Just before it did dive, a second beaver appeared, also coming from S. shore but having a willow cut- ting. It "plopped" almost as soon as we saw it but then surfaced, swam to lodge, dove & entered with the cutting. Betty, who was lying on the log almost on top of the lodge, could hear gnawing noises. 8:35 beaver surfaced and swam back & forth in the pond. This action noted several times before seems to be one of suspicion but not fright. The gnawing noises persisted in the house. The beaver then disappeared toward S. shore. 8:55 a beaver sighted swimming v. rapidly near midsection of the dam. Slowed down as it approached house, then dove into it. I left at 9 PM. The evening was clear & calm.
