June 27 Sogoten Creek, 3 mi. W Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif.
Nothing startling. The 4 eggs in the
James' nest had hatched. Weather
clear & bright in AM, clouding up about 3 PM.
July 6 Upper Rockslide colony 7:40 PM. Adult sur-
faced in middle of dam pond after swim-
ing about 40' underwater from lodge.
Swam toward S edge of pond & then dove.
♂ And. warbler foraging almost in water
at dam. Chickadee with insect in bill
seeing flying down-stream among the tall,
dead L poles of the pond. Lost sight of
it. At 7:55 one returned with more
food. ♂ W. tanager seen briefly in
a living L pole at streamside. James
moving about in willows just below dam,
not coming right to water's edge like the
And. warbler did. Saw chickadee enter
the hole occupied last year by hairy
woodpeckers. 8 PM. A beaver returned
to the lodge with a willow cutting &
dove in with it. 8:10 While I was stand-
ing about 10' from the lodge, in plain
sight a beaver left home surfaced
