J.G. Hall 1953 103 June 26 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. tree near house + took shot of the house. From this lookout you can see most of the main pond. Song sparrows singing in willows. About 2 PM I started marking trees at NW end but promptly lost my pencil after only a few were done so quit. old work D x 1 III 2 ### ### 3 III 4 1 At one spot where 2 aspen + 2 fir were side by side, firs were used + aspen ig- mored: 3" 4" 3" the 4" F F A fir was cut + half stripped of bark, the 3" fir was about 1/3 stripped, both aspen were untouched. This seems to show a definite choice of fir in this instance. Saw [illegible] more small fir stumps of avl. diam 2". As I went back up trail to leave I noticed a new colony established just upstream, will examine it more closely tomorrow. Almost caught a mole as he was going into his burrow about 10' from the water's edge. Fox sparrow singing in asp a little farther up. Redbird car about 4. After supper took a short
