J.G.Hall 1953 102 June 26 Sage Hen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. some nice underwater canals. Saw a couple of swallows, probably tree swallows flying high over the pond. Main pond has a high water level and the dam is in good repair. Water covers most of the log fin I used last year as a bridge. Water is 7' deep in some places just behind dam. Some winter use of willow evident in spite of all the aspen available. Maybe the beaver got special food minerals from willow & fir bark, they seem to use it even when lots of aspen is at hand. Very few large aspen left standing in main pond area, a noticeable ↓ since last summer. Found a bank burrow cave-in on S side. Took a trip to inspect the lodge at close quarters. All kinds of peeled & un- peeled aspen logs floating & sunken near house. Average house diameter at water level 12', height 5'. At least three entrances. Lodge topped w old & new logs up to 4" in diam, sides still heavily plastered from winter. Located a good lookout
