Roadside colony 10 AM. And. Society at beaver pond. Talked to the leader Ferd Ruth. Saw W. Manager + photo - graphed 6" fir tree that had been cut + stripped completely. Con- tinued on downstream; found Robin's nest 10' above path in an 18' Jeffrey.
Ground squirrels + chipmunks abundant on grassy flats, jays + junco's on the pine slopes, pil. warblers + pewees in streamside willows. "Pigmy owls" calling from high up on slopes + answered fairly well when I imitated their calls. While there were at least two of them, answered every 6 or 7 secs for a while then quit responding. Reached (the) lower colony at 11. Creeper on 20' snag, Chickadees singing in deep shrubbery. First impression one of much increased cutting in area of upper N dam which has been lengthened considerably to make quite a nice subsidiary pond tangled with many large aspens recently cut.
