J.G. Hall 1953 June 22½ Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hubart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. and strangely a lot of white fir of small diam has been cut, the branches that bear the needles showing up once or twice on the SW side & often on this side. About 6 half-inch fir stumps here & one 6" stump with trimmed log lying nearly! Have never seen such concentrated fir-use-the log has been completely trimmed of bark. Get photo of some. No pine-use tho' they are commoner than firs here. About 90% aspen on this side has been used. Upper dam obviously has more leaks than lower one. Left at 4:30 Weather perfect & cloudless all day just as it was yesterday. (In the morning about 8 AM I had a good look at a young marmot at the bridge log stump. Also a ♀ humming) June 23 Main camp 8:30 AM at bridge log. Half grown marmot still there. Meadow across from camp about noon, saw large bear dropping at margin of meadow & forest; mostly grass. Two old patches of bear droppings seen a couple of days ago at garbage pit. RR spur above deilin meadow, 2 PM. Two dive-sided
