J.G. Hall 1953 97 June 2[2] Sagehen Creek, 3mi NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co, Calif. and a log about 4" in diam. is floating beside the house. A well- defined path leads from tree to pond. The dam just below this home is in better repair than that just above. Is lodge above in active use? This dam such a good example of opportunism as its built largely against a 1' pole deadfall, that I should have a photo of same. The aspen supply immediately adjacent to this new house is even poorer than than next to upper house but willow supply is the same. Evidence of new- cutting in the good aspen stand be- low which was not or only v. slightly used last year. Are the bears mov- ing down into this area & will they build new houses farther & farther downstream into this good aspen stand? Crossed over in upper part of this good stand in which there are some 8" cut recently. Or NE side there is sparse but continual aspen cutting. Slope much steeper & aspen much scarcer here. White fir + 8'- poles come down to water's edge here
