J.G. Hall 1953 92 June 6 Sagehen Creek, 3 mi. NW Hobart Mills, Nevada Co., Calif. mud. 8" apart, 2" wide, hind & fore- tracks almost superimposing; maybe just beavers. Can't tell much about activ- ity but, although water is higher than in summer & fall, you can walk on the marshy area N of the RR "bridge" now without getting your feet wet, not [so waters to] now lower possible last summer. Stellar jays in l'poles 4:25. Sprinkling a little pm time to time but clearing up eventually. Flicker calling, two T. Solitaires in Jeffreys, one fluttering wings while perch- ed a foot below the other but no copulation. Two tops of aspen, 6-8' from ground cut by beavers on S side of creek opp turn-off place. Probably cut this winter. Also some old cutting here. One 3" asp partly cut here too. No asp. in leaf yet. 7:30 PM al, Bob + I saw 2 or 3 sites just above upper Rockside where dams may be beginning but it's v. hard to say yet. 50' up from this a bigger blockade more probably but not certainly is beaver work. 25' farther up from this blockade is an extensive cutting & feeding area
